This is probably one of my most requested topics to speak on, so I’m going to touch base on changing up a living room between the seasons on a budget! Full disclosure, I have been collecting decor for a little over four years so it has added up. I am definitely not one of those people who can just go out and purchase a whole new space without breaking the bank. So this post is going to be on two different things:
- How you can add new, fresh pops to your living room on a budget.
- How I’ve decided to collect decor/what I search for when shopping for decor.
Okay so let’s talk about items that you could easily add into your living room to spice up the space. My first and biggest recommendation on changing up your living room, the throw pillows and blankets. They are both relatively cheap (depending on where you shop), and are great ways to make a room feel cozy. I prefer the neutral look just about year round, so these tips are going to be geared towards that style a bit more for today’s post.
Where to buy budget friendly throw pillows or blankets? Here’s my usual list for where I buy these items:
- Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshall’s – Yes shocker I know; however, you can TOTALLY spend a lot of money in this store without thinking about it. So go in on a mission and know which type of items you want to buy. If you are going in for throw pillows and blankets, winter IS YOUR SEASON. The cutest options are out right now and I’m linking a few below.
- Target – BUT wait for their home decor sales. They are always having them and lately they have been happening at least once a month. I got my faux fur pillows from there and I love them. The quality of Target’s pillows has really increased, and AJ appreciates when I buy pillows he can actually use lol.
- Kirkland’s – Kirkland’s is such a great place, because their decor is always on point style wise and budget friendly. They have a whole array of pillows, and if you sign up for their emails you’ll always have a coupon! Venture over to their site and sign up for those here. Once you get to their site you should be prompted to sign up.
Those are my top three stores/chains to shop at when it comes to throw pillows and blankets on a budget. Again, you can buy more expensive items at all of those stores, but go in with a plan on what you want to spend. Here are a few options I’ve been eyeing lately:
Adding throw pillows to our cream sofa adds an extra pop of texture and can change this space so much! You can totally do this to your space with under $100. Again, you will probably only be able to start out with 3-4 pillows and one throw blankets with this budget, but it’ll make a pop!
Between the throw pillows and blankets, there are other textures you can add into your space as well to liven up a space. Greenery! It’s one of my favorite things to add to a space, and so easy to change throughout the seasons as well. For winter I like to mix in pine cones with the greenery, and then it makes it for an easy transition into spring with adding more florals. Hands down, I love getting my greenery from Home Goods and Hobby Lobby. Almost all of my greenery are from these two stores; however, once again Target is stepping up their game on budget friendly greenery.
Now if you are a person who isn’t satisfied with just greenery, I would recommend getting the floral bundles from Hobby Lobby to add a little more volume to your pieces. Then tie it all together with some faux or real dried eucalyptus. The bundle florals are 50% off everything other week, and then you can just cut the stems off. It’s way cheaper than buying stems. I prefer the look of the dried eucalyptus, but it can be a little harder to work with. These are also 50% off every other week and can be found in the dried floral section.
These are the three budget friendly items that I always recommend when trying to liven up a space on a budget. If you have a little more room, try adding a sign or mirror to the space. Signs are relatively cheap at all the stores I’ve mentioned above, but if you find yourself confused on what to buy in this area, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with questions! I’m more then happy to offer my opinion if you are stuck on a couple pieces.
I hope you enjoyed today’s post about freshening up a space on a budget! Remember, great things take time and Rome wasn’t built in a day. This is a stepping stone into your best decor days! If you follow any of the above steps, please tag me in your photos! I would love to see how you chose to style things in your home!
Need the striped ruffle pillow where did you find it?
I actually bought it awhile back at TJ Maxx! They might have it in stock again in stores from time to time!
