Add a rug to a room with carpet? What?!
YES!! I’m here for it, even if someone in your family isn’t. First let’s start with the simple fact: carpet is cheaper to put into a home than wood floors are, so most of us have carpet in our bedrooms. But, carpet isn’t as fun to look at all the time, so that’s where a simple rug comes in.
Adding a rug over carpet can make a room POP! It adds a unique flair to each individual room, and if your home is anything like ours, it adds some much needed warmth to a room.
When I first started adding rugs into our home, I went pretty safe. I stuck with the black and whites, light grays, and other neutral rugs. They are safe bets especially when you aren’t positive about how you are styling a room yet. And in all honestly, pairing colors and patterns can be quite nerve wracking.
With Brynnley’s nursery (which still is not done yet and she’s almost 4 months old) I wanted to play with multiple colors: rust, mauve, sage, creams, golds, and wood tones. It’s pretty hard to find a rug that mixes all of those together, so I picked a few of those colors and started searching. My friends over at Well Woven had just the right rug that I was looking for!
The perfect mix of rust, red and ivory.
In addition to adding a great pop of color to a nursery, adding a Well Woven rug to a nursery is a great choice because they are easy-to-clean and stain resistant. Brynnley is pretty easy to clean up after right now, but soon enough she will be spilling things everywhere. Since we have such light carpet, I wanted to try my best to keep it clean. Adding a rug to her room will help me do that!
So now, how can you go about picking a rug for your kiddo’s room?
Well, first try to nail down the color of the walls you are doing. If you are doing a neutral like me, great! That makes rug shopping easy.
Next, decide on a style you want. Head on over to the lovely app called Pinterest and start pinning away with what you think you want. You’d be surprised once you go back to your nursery board how easy it will be to tell your style.
Once you nail that down, head over to the Well Woven site here. You can search specifically by the styles they have on their website. This helped me SO much! I knew I wasn’t going for modern or any blues, so I searched by the following to find the rug I wanted:
- Vintage style
- Bohemian style
- Red color
- Ivory color
I found the Stella Natural Modern Vintage Rug pretty quickly, but I didn’t stop the search there. I searched through a ton of rugs just to make sure it was the one, and it ended up having the perfect mix of everything I wanted.
